Living Waters Ministry

The spirit of giving shines brightly during the holiday season, and for Living Water Ministry, Inc. (LWM), this spirit is a year-round commitment. LWM, which began as a Home Bible Study in Petersburg West Virginia, with just three families in 2014, has grown into a pillar of support for their local community, particularly during the holidays. Their Helping Hands Food Pantry has become a source of hope, offering not only meals, but the warmth of community for families in need.

LWM's journey started in June 2015 when they launched the "Helping Hands Food Pantry," initially providing groceries to six families from their own back porch. Today, their reach has expanded, serving an astonishing 900-1,000 families every month in the Petersburg community. In 2022 alone, they extended a helping hand to 10,338 families and impacted the lives of 21,135 individuals.

One of the most significant aspects of LWM's mission is their dedication to holiday assistance. They understand the unique struggles that many families face during this time, and their efforts go above and beyond to make a difference.

During the Thanksgiving holidays, their pantry provides free meals to those who might otherwise go without a holiday meal. Their Thanksgiving meals program started out providing 160 meals and has increased to nearly 800 Thanksgiving meals in 2022.

In addition, LWM ensures every family they assist during the holiday receives gifts. “For many of these families, these gifts are the only ones they will receive for Christmas, making our efforts during the season even more special,” said Barb Sisson, Director of LWM.

The impact of LWM's holiday programs goes beyond the number of families served. Countless stories highlight the profound difference they make in people's lives. For many, the food they receive during the holidays allows them to pay essential bills and afford necessary medications.

“More than 90% of Helping Hands Food Pantry clients are senior citizens,” said Sisson.

Living Water Ministry's commitment to their community goes hand in hand with the support they receive from various sources, including Mountaineer Food Bank. “The food we receive from Mountaineer Food Bank amplifies our ability to help make a difference,” Sisson said.

Living Water Ministry, Inc., and their Helping Hands Food Pantry are a source of help and joy during the holiday season and throughout the year. Their commitment to serving their community, especially during the holidays, brings warmth and comfort to those in need.
