Together We Can Solve Hunger
Mountaineer Food Bank and five West Virginia food pantries are competing in the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Facebook Campaign sponsored by Walmart. Through the campaign, the general public can participate in a consumer voting campaign to determine which Feeding America food banks will receive funding. The campaign will also encourage Walmart customers and associates to support local food banks by voting, volunteering and donating.
In addition to Mountaineer Food Bank, the following food pantries will be eligible for funding: Melody’s Manna in Charleston, Community Cupboard Food Pantry in Inwood, Sobrainia/Soup Opera in Fairmont, The Shack Neighborhood House in Morgantown and Five Loaves and Two Fishes in Kimball, WV. The food bank and the pantries will be competing together against 127 other food banks in the county. The food bank has the opportunity to win $45,000, while the pantries could be awarded $15,000 collectively ($3,000 each).
Participating is simple. Online voting is from September 15 to October 5. There is only one way to vote: online via www.walmart.com/fighthunger. The Walmart website uses Facebook for verification and voters must have a Facebook account. Voters can vote once per day and by voting for the food bank, they are also voting for the five feeding programs. The programs are not competing against themselves, only against other competing food banks/feeding programs. The top 50 food banks with the most votes at the end of the campaign will be awarded funds.
